Women's Club Hockey 2016-2017 Season Thread

Lady RedHawks Open Against the McKendree University Bearcats
Miami Women's Hockey opens its defense of the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Championship this weekend against the McKendree University Bearcats at the Goggin Ice Center. Game one is 7:10PM on Friday (9/30) with the finale of the two game set at 4PM on Saturday (10/1). The Bearcats are expected to be a strong first weekend challenge for Miami.
The Lady RedHawks sport a solid returning group with 15 players from last year's national championship team back in Oxford for this season. Miami adds three rookies to the roster: goaltender Rachel Damrath, defense Sarah Peterson, and forward Amanda Pugliese. We will provide more detailed player profiles for the newcomers and veterans in coming newsletters.
Augustine, Booth, Mooney, and Smith Named Captains
Seniors Katie Augustine, Rachel Booth, Kaley Mooney, and Izzy Smith were named captains for the 2016/2017 season. Mooney and Smith will wear the "C" and Augustine and Booth will sport the "A" for the Lady RedHawks. Congrats to Augie, Boothie, Kaley, and Izzy.
Wendy Augustine
As most of you know, Miami Women's Hockey suffered a devastating loss this summer when Wendy Augustine, Mom of Katie Augustine, passed away in May in an accident on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. Wendy was our biggest fan, a vocal fixture at our games, home and away, and a support person for many of our players. Because the Augustine family lives close by (West Chester), Wendy had become the unofficial Team Mom for our players.
On September 16, in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and the women's hockey team players and coaches, a red maple was planted between Goggin and the South Garage (toward the north end of the garage). The tree will keep Wendy's memory alive near a place she loved dearly. A plaque memorializing Wendy will identify the tree. We urge everyone to stop by "Wendy's Tree" and reflect. At the ceremony, the women's team presented John, Andrew, and Katie Augustine with a Miami Women's Hockey jersey with "Wendy" and the number "1" on the back. She was indeed our #1 fan. Wendy, you will be dearly missed by all of us.

Game #2 is Saturday @ 3:45pm
Information on location is in the previous post. The game is south of Youngstown, so those Miamians in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, call your friends, grab your kids, wear your Miami gear (bring a Miami flag if you have one) and support the team!
Two words: ROAD TRIP!
Miami 4 - Lindenwood 3
Miami remains undefeated!!!!!!!
Keep on rockin' it ladies, you're the best!!!!!!!!!
Game 2 at 7pm on Saturday night at Goggin vs Robert Morris!
Jerry Falwell is celebrating with Beelzebub.
Below is a video clip of Miami's #10, forward Rachel Booth, and her participation in the World University Games in Kazakhstan. USA won the bronze medal by beating China 3-0. Canada played Russia for the gold. Four Miami women hockey players and Coach Hicks there representing Miami and the USA. "Hicksy" is an assistant for Team USA.
Actually, ANYTIME, financially, is a great time to contribute to the women's hockey team!
In the Ohio State series, due to players at the World University Games, plus injuries, sickness, etc. Miami swept OSU with just 8 skaters and their back-up goalie. Great job by assistant Kaitlyn Johnson pulling it all together.
Also, this year the national championships for all 5 divisions of the ACHA will be in Columbus. The D-1 women begin pool play on March 15, so hopefully this year's team will again make it to nationals. I believe in the last rankings they were at #4 in the country.
Hope to see a lot of you there.
