Indy is closer than Columbus and Cleveland. With the staff's connections, it only makes sense. Plus, Indiana has some great HS basketball with a lower density of D1 programs compared to Ohio. Once you get past IU and Purdue, you're competing against Ball State, IUPUI, IPFW, and Evansville for the non-P5 guys. I like our chances there.

That's basically who we fought for Adaway. Nike was similar with competing schools but the circumstances were different.

Butler not make the list, eh? Yeah, Butler sucks.

With AAU teams, I'm not sure the geography is that big of a deal anymore.  High Major schools and those just below (A10, AAC) from other states have no issues going into other states.  Duquesne came into Ohio in 2018 and snagged 2 from the top-15 list because Dambrot knows Ohio.

The controlling factor for Miami appears to be Coach Owen's connections with that recruiting area.  He knows Indiana and he is comfortable recruiting there.  Nothing wrong with that.

As far as the State of Indiana, Indiana and Purdue have done a good job of controlling the top Indiana players (IU appears to be making that a priority again with Archie Miller).  Butler is also in that category of major schools mining Indiana.  Interestingly, checking out one list (247 Sports) of the top 15 players in 2018:

4 of top 15 players went to major IN-STATE schools (IU: 3 of the top 4, Purdue: #6 player, Butler: 0) while 3 other Major schools nabbed a top-15 player (UCLA, Michigan State, Maryland).  While mid-majors snagged 5 of the top 15 players (#7 (Ball State), #9 (Chattanooga), #10 (Loyola-Chicago), #13 (Duquesne) and #14 (Vermont)

By comparison, in Ohio in 2018, 6 of the top-10 went to major conference schools (#1 player went pro).  Of the other 8 players, 1 went to Dayton, 2 to Duquesne, 1 to VCU, 1 to St. Bonaventure, 1 to South Carolina Upstate, 1 to UMASS-Lowell, 1 went JUCO.

Other than Ball State, MAC schools didn't land any top-15 players from the 247 sports list in 2018

    BTW...for 2019, 247 currently has a top-11 for Ohio.

Ohio State has #1 (Alonzo Gaffney), North Carolina has #3 (Jeremiah Francis) and West Virginia has #5 (Miles McBride).  None of the other top-11 have committed.  Miami's Javin Etzler is not on this list.

    Indiana's top-13 for 2019:

Purdue has #7 and #9, Butler has #10 while Loyola-Chicago has #12.  Miami's Sydney Curry is not on this list

Butler is part of the "P6" so I don't see us competing with them. Should've included them, but point still stands that among MM colleges, Miami's competition is denser in Ohio. When you factor in Owen's connections like Nick said, it's probably good we're sticking to what the staff knows and where the HS coaches trust.

BTW....Miami appears to be cultivating a relationship with guys like Chet Mason in Cleveland.  With his Brush team and Sonny Johnson's Garfield Heights program, there is a ton of talent in Cleveland for the next few years

Miami just offered 6'6" wing Doug Konieczny from South Bend, Indiana. I think he is class of 2021.  Nice looking player in the mold of the other guys Owens has been recruiting. Visited Miami this week. Has a reported offer from Valpo. Has had trips to Vanderbilt and Belmont per Twitter.

So are you thinking about the Weathers twins or the Pollitz twins.  Tim and Eric had great careers.  Michael and Marcus were good, but transferred out before really accomplishing anything here.

My first thoughts were of the Pollitz twins and was agreeing with you, then I remembered the Weathers.  Maybe you were thinking of the Pollitz twins too.
