That seems to be a pretty solid class...love seeing Ohio recruiting picking up as we know he's been great at getting guys from Indiana. Hopefully making relationships with Ohio coaches working!

Sounds like Miami academics played a big role, helping us win out over A10 schools. Love that—says a lot about him, and Miami. This is shaping up as a nice class.

Coaches are still in contact with him. I believe it didn't have anything to do with him wanting to go elsewhere

I believe Curry would be a recruit for 21-22 season as he would complete two years of JUCO
  • FraggleHawkFraggleHawk Off-Campus Slummer
Luka Eller was also the kicker for his high school football team.

I am not sure how that works.  Generally that is true.  However, sometime a player just goes for one year and then transfers.  Bam Bowman and Josh Brewer both came to Miami as sophomores
  • Redhawk90Redhawk90 Summer Orientee
Both Brewer an Bowman went to JUCO and redshirted one year to maintain 3 years of D1 eligibility

    Neither one of them redshirted

  • Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the rule is that academic nonqualifiers have to go Juco for 2 years but academic qualifiers who choose to go Juco can leave after 1 year. So if Curry had academic issues it would be a question of whether he didn't meet the NCAA's standards or Miami's standards.

Luka signed his LOI per his Twitter page.  This happened days and days ago.

Miami hasn’t celebrated his signing at all. No public release.

Jackson Ames signed and Miami immediately had a release. Good move there.

by comparison—Miami announces the FB commits seconds after they roll off the fax machine.

I’m not sure I like this commitment to basketball

Honest question: Is that on Miami or the coaches? That is, does Chuck and company push the way they do it and Owens doesn't? Chuck retweets a lot of stuff from Miami and not just football. I don't see that from Owens but maybe I'm missing it?

beat....valid question.   Miami has an athletic department and one would expect that it has folks tasked with the responsibility for these things. In the past, Miami has assigned an assistant athletic director to the each athletic program (liaison) to handle scheduling, media, releases, etc.  I'm not sure if it still does this.  One time I asked the Athletic director why they don’t have the coaches out doing more fundraising events. The answer was that —at Miami the coaches need to recruit, coach and win.

Everything else is left up to the administration

(BTW-per the official athletic website, Miami has an athletic director and lists 15 assistant AD's in the "senior administration" section.  It also has 10 members listed in the communications section led by Dave Meyer (who by the way is tasked with the sole responsibility for FB media).  MBB has been assigned Mike Roth, the Assistant Athletic Communications Director.  His listed responsibilities include MBB, VB and Baseball)

(BTW2-The MBB program lost a staff member that was never replaced and is operating a man down this season.

2018-19  Coaches: HC Owens, AC's Rutter, Reynolds, Lowe, Assistant to HC Frierson, DOBO Ryne Smith, Video Ops Coordinator Olinger (Total 7)
2019-20: Coaches: HC Owens, AC's Rutter, Reynolds, Lowe, Assistant to HC Frierson, DOBO Olinger (Total 6)

However, assume for a moment that the MBB staff is responsible for writing and posting press releases for its own program.  Where is the oversight by the AD's office?  Does it notice? Does it care?

There might be more to this story as to why we haven't seen a release. Who knows. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume there is a reason for this.

I would expect we hear more about Eller come the regular signing period in April. Just a hunch.
