Incoming Frosh golfer wins prestigious Chicago-area tourney

FormerTownieFormerTownie Summer Orientee
Danny Fisher, Miami's lone in-coming golf commit, won the 2019 Chick Evans Junior Amateur Championship this past week.  The CEJA is one of the more prestigious Junior golf tourneys in Illinois and the Chicago area.  Over the 6 rounds of both stroke and match play, he had 22 birdies and 1 eagle.  In the championship match, Danny won 3-and-1 and was 7-under through 17 holes, which included 5 birdies in a row at one point.  Ironically, he defeated current RedHawk Jack Mortell's cousin to take home the title.  Danny has had a good summer placing 6th in the Illinois State Junior Amateur in June (after leading for the first 2 rounds), and now winning the Chick Evans.  His next event is the Illinois Open, where he'll be playing alongside a number of current and former RedHawks such as Patrick Flavin, Brian Ohr, Charlie Nikitas, and Jack Mortell (as well as my son, who plays for Carnegie Mellon).  Congrats, Danny, and welcome to Miami!

Wow, that’s a freaking heater for sure. Also speaks to the competition that he was 7 under in the final match and it still took 17 holes to close out.
