Surprised to learn that men's soccer is one of the sports that are being dropped by the University of New Mexico. That program has been very strong, nationally, for a couple decades and was in serious contention for several national titles.

The article also includes a nice tally of men's and women's NCAA programs added and discontinued over the past decade for which data is available.

Very surprising that school would cut a successful program, let alone that of a sport that continues to grow in popularity across the country.

Former BG athletic director Paul Krebs rang up huge deficits for UNM's athletic program, accruing a $4.7 million deficit and resigning after he was caught paying for booster golf trips with public money.  Krebs sucked at his job, and now the soccer athletes get to pay the price.
