So is this how many games does a team have to win to advance to the Super Regionals? Three?

You have to win a four team double elimination tournament. If you run the table in the winner’s bracket, three. If you have to come out of the loser’s bracket, four.

They finished off the sweep with another run rule win today. Final regular season record is 46-8.

The selection show is at 9 on ESPN2. We probably deserve a 2 seed, but could definitely end up as a 3 if the committee really hates the MAC. Getting into a regional with one of the worse 1 seeds is probably more important than getting the 2 seed though.

The good news: We didn't get paired with any of the top 8 seeds.

The bad news: It looks like the committee hates mid-majors based on the seedings from the first 8 regionals.

    We are going to Lexington.

    Lexington!

2 or 3 seed doesn’t really matter. Same teams would play each other anyway. Should be a good game Friday!

Miami beat Notre Dame in Ann Arbor in the NCAA tournament a couple years ago.
  • QuinoaburgerQuinoaburger Wealthy Alum
Kentucky is a favorable draw as a 1 seed, but Notre Dame is a tough 2 and Northwestern as the 4 is a brutal draw.
  • Bash_RiprockBash_Riprock Wealthy Alum
We need Mike Ensminger to give the pre-game pep talk. He knows how to beat Notre Dame.

Anyone think the Washington Huskies are a little pissed off?

I like the comparison games with Notre Dame. Georgia Tech, WMU and CMU. Seems like it should be competitive. northwestern only played big 10 games so hard to gauge. UK is beatable.

Seemed like kind of a childish reaction, though I don't blame them for being upset.

In other news, Miami is winning their regional.

This Miami team is no fluke, and quite frankly, probably deserved the second seed in their bracket. But here are some numbers and where Miami ranks nationally. These are national statistics, not MAC:

We are TOP 5 in the NATION in many offensive categories!!! Including...
    •Doubles per game (#1)
    •Scoring (#2)
    •On base percentage (#3)
    •Slugging percentage (#3)
    •Homeruns (#5)
    •Team batting average (#5)

They have to beat all the teams in their pool anyway.  The team is in.  Now they can do work.

Being a #2 seed would have been a nice reward for a great season, but as Spanks noted above it really doesn't matter. What is nice is that the committee put us close to home instead of sending us way out west or far south. Of all the regional sites, Lexington is the closest to home.

    Records and run differentials

    Georgia Tech: Miami (2-0, +7), Notre Dame (3-1, +13)
    Central Michigan: Miami (4-0, +29), Notre Dame (1-0, +3)
    Western Michigan: Miami (4-0, +38), Notre Dame (1-0, +7)

They reminded me of that time the Utah State basketball team went 30-3, was ranked #17 in the country, and the selection committee gave them a 12 seed. They were literally booing when the selection show cut to them for a reaction shot.

Washington was ranked #5 in the country going into this weekend. They went 2-2, but it was on the road against a team that the committee seeded at 2, so the #16 ranking (having to play #1 Oklahoma in the Super Regional) was really unexpected for them.

And we were placed in one of the lower top seeds group. That shows we were a very high 3, which makes sense given our RPI is around 37

Seriously! My Purple UDub grad school blood boiled. Number 5 ranked team gets the 15 #1 seed and they send Michigan out there with Seattle U and Portland State. .Don’t get mad, get even, Dawgs! And go Miami RedHawks!

Anyone think the Washington Huskies are a little pissed off?
